My name is Maggie Lima-Machado, I am 37yrs.old and a breast cancer survivor… knock wood. At the 2009 Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board OECTA-Trustee Public Speaking Awards, my 9yr.old daughter wrote and recited her speach about “The Person I Admire Most”. She came in 2nd place/Silver Award and was youngest among her peers. Never have I been more proud, and was reminded of why I fought my cancer then, and continue to fight now. So now I share my cancer story through the eyes of my child.

wow what a great written story by a 4 year old. we are ourselves facing a cancer battle for our dad -brain and lung cancer. so far he has had the brain tumour removed successfully and is now going through radium on that. nothing known about the lungs as they weren’t able to see the oncologist as he was an hour or so behind. he might be 80 in january but he has cancer and we two daughters don’t want him to have the chemo. have to see what happens with the oncologist. radium will be finished just before christmas so hopefully we can all celebrate another christmas in 2010. we want him to be a survivor and hope it happens and realise given it is in his brain and lungs it is probably the worst to have and treatment will be 4 hourly lots of chemo. these cancers have come from melanomas he has had on his back from when he was a lifesaver in a previous life. remember to slip, slop and slap with the highest skin protection factor sunscreen you can.
congrats on being a survivor and not requiring more treatment and you should be very proud of that story.
